#BlogLife1143 - First mackerel experience (Naming it Hash-ishy)

I've bought the tinned sardines and the tinned mackerel and I thought What should I do with them?

I was hesitant to buy bread or rolls, what if they are sold out and I'm left with nothing?

I ended up getting bagels and muffins, shame they are white, but more likely to be in stock, than wholemeal sadly :(

I decided, what if I load up the Ryvita rye crackers instead? I didn't get cheese, to save money..

I do have fake butter and what I might do, which sounds weird.. (But I like weird)..

I saw mini hash browns, what if I cooked them and maybe mashed them up on top and then added the fish..

Like a crispy crunchy potatoey, fishy snack? Then some chilli jam drizzled over it?

Now as always, What do we call it?? These mixtures need a name...

Pot-ishy? Hash-ishy? Ha, it never gets easier..

I mean assuming everything gets delivered or they substitute..

I want to make it heartier.. To fill me up and I need to stretch out the meals too..

I think that work for the breakfasty lunch, first meal I have. I just have to cook the hash browns in advance..

I know when I'm hungry, I have to eat immediately.. So I'll have to plan ahead somewhat..

I can't predict when I'll be hungry, it varies..

I also have fillings to do some beef and some chicken burgers.

Plus a chicken pasta and a spicy cheese macaroni.

Plus snacks. Hopefully it's enough food for a while. I still have leftover takeout..

But for some reason I am cramping hard so a light dinner was all I could cope with.

I would have liked to get salmon but oof is that pricey... These are way more affordable.

And it's better that I change things up anyway, rather than the same thing..

Oops I wonder if I got boneless.. I'm a lil nervous what if I hate it?

I also went with tomato sauce, rather than oil. Sometimes oil is too strong and ruins the taste for me.,

Ok I've paid the rent and tomorrow a fresh month to budget for.

I woke up at 8ish I think and it's now 11amish, very drizzly here, which I love.

Oops got to get the blankie out and I finally feel hungry, so I have to do the hash browns first and make my crazy sandwichy cracker thingy..

Ahh the hash browns are minis and look like croquettes, mini tubes of potato in batter I think..

Much easier to squish down. Iceland had a great version, seasoned well, I hope these are similar..

Wow, wow, wow, another successful pairing, to me, it tastes like sardines..

Absolutely delicious. A lil butter on the cracker gave it a more premium feel..

All the flavours blended well. I'm so glad I opted for tomato sauce instead of oil in the tin, perfect.

Granted the cracker was falling apart slightly. If I had a loaf of bread, that would be more stable..

But you know what, I actually like it on the cracker, it's different.

The mini hash browns, lil salty but very tasty, such a good choice..

Now to try with the chilli jam but being honest, that half filled me up so I don't think I can.

I have a feeling pmt is taking over, limiting my appetite, plus the cramping.

I'm writing this, in the hopes, my hunger increases, because I have four hash browns that need to go in a sandwich..

Oof but I'm full and completely happy and satisfied.

I don't cook, I have no expertise and I'm just going with my gut :)

Last thing, the mackerel, I had it in the fridge because I wasn't sure, so the chunk I pulled out was a big tough to separate.

It didn't taste tough but that's my only thought. The tin was easy to open, a pull tab, once I got a good grip.

Ooh I want to eat more but I don't have the capacity.

Ps I tried it with the chilli jam, it didn't add anything so it's not needed.

I bet it would be spectacular with olives, more of that mildly salty flavour enhancing it...

Or green peppers or cucumbers for extra crunch...Yum :)
